palmetto palm — A discerning eye can spot multiple Sabal Palm seed fronds sprouting, some several feet long already. They look like giant asparagus stalks. One reason this is our Florida State Tree is because freezing temperatures, drought, nor floods can kill it.

What’s one thing that’s surprised you about summer 2026?

How well all Winter’s freeze-damaged plants are coming back to tropical and colorful life.

Blogging memories day 7, work

Disney Institute team 2009 in Chicago — Deeply indebted to my colleagues at Disney Institute. Here are some of them in 2009, in Chicago. i’m the fourth one from the left.

What are some of your earliest blogging memories?

Keeping my blogging a quiet, personal endeavor.

Kept it quiet out of habit, like i did for a decade prior while overcoming a major health wakeup call through running. Running that eventually led to me going to Finland in 2009 to represent Team USA in the Masters Track and Field World Championships in the Men’s 50-54 age group. Never told a soul.

Well, eventually, i told my leader and one colleague, but not until two weeks from the actual trip. Nine years, 11 months and two weeks of quietly doing my thing. A good and decent thing.

What will you speak about after you retire?

A few ideas collided to create Mid Life Celebration, the paradox, the antithesis, of midlife crisis.

i would craft a personal speaking business challenging 80 million Baby Boomers to do something great before they die. To dust off one of their lofty childhood dreams that still inspired them. And then go for it.

Why?

To die without regret.

To have no regret that they never tried to do the thing they promised themselves was supremely important to them in their youth.
