Habitual hope, work

Few hike to this vantage point. Why? No trail. No compelling, nor viral, hiker recommendations. Yet since the first time i randomly, and curiously, explored this side of Piegan Mountain, it’s become a habit.

Just after sunset, walked East to get the mail…moonrise.

Habitual hope.

Hope that you carry with you.

Automatically.

Without thinking.

Hope, habitually.

When i retired from Disney 10 years earlier than planned, i obviously hoped i could figure out how to build a small business to make a bigger impact on everything and everybody.

Hope didn’t build my business.

But hope was the compass that led me to a “burn the ships” imperative.

Hope’s compass led to the habitual reps every startup founder must do.

So while doing the common-sense startup reps, i also, habitually, did all the things that most startups never do – go against conventional wisdom.

Being unconventional without even thinking about being unconventional.

Culture is what people think and do, without thinking.

Grateful to not only know this, but to intentionally, by design, feed the reps that create great habits.

Exploit hope, work

snow covered mountains
We have experimented for years with different seasonal visits. Summer, Fall, then Winter and Spring. The context of each season accentuates the other three in an inspiring, humbling, artful way.

What the New Year brings you proportionally depends on what you bring to 2026.

Same for each month, week, day, and moment.

Same for each idea, intent, act, improvement, and sharing.

Fanatically bring your best if you want to intentionally be your best.

Welcome 2026, work

mountains and lake
Lake McDonald is 10 miles long, 500′ deep at the deepest, and this south shore location is ridiculously easy to access.

Those creative ideas you have on how to make your work life better, remember this…

No great idea ever starts out great.

Great ideas generally sound like dumb ideas initially.

We need dumb ideas to spark the progression for idea improvement.

Dream like you mean it.

.think .differently like you mean it.

Lean into discomfort like you mean it.

Have fun like you mean it.

Take the long way

Working smart is the opposite of working hard.

But ‘working smart’ IS the result of working hard.

You have to put in the hours before you see shortcuts. You have to learn details before you learn which details matter.

You have to fail many times before you discover how to do succeed.

The long way is the shortcut.
