What is a typical day like for an artist? Depends.

The Palace, Fargo Dome, Barclays Center, Super Dome, Amway Center.

Famous venues like these are were most of us go as spectators.

Today, the fifth one is added to a growing list of venues where I have not been a spectator.

Today I plan to do a speech in a way I have never done before

A big audience is a big responsibility, so is a small one.

Today I plan to do a speech in a way I have never done before. Just like last time. And the time before that.

Art is not always the best of the best. Art can be doing something in a way no one else does, or with a bandwidth no one else does, or both.

This is the same for all of us, speaker or no speaker.

The most unexpected, amazing answer from a half-serious question

Art is never giving the same speech twice.
Art is never giving the same speech twice.

After yesterday’s keynote, mingling, and teardown, headed out the Resort porte cochere to the car. The most unexpected, amazing answer from a half-serious question.

Three women from the audience were engaged in their own deep conversation. But I made cordial small talk and then continued walking to the car.

Over my shoulder I hear, “Can I ask you a question?”

Sure, I said, turning around, but not walking closer.

They asked a few more questions, shared a story, and I was making a transition to leave and I said, “Aren’t you supposed to be in a breakout session”?

“Yes, but your presentation sparked a conversation and before we knew it our breakout session was half over, so we’re skipping it.”

Be the spark.

Ever hear something sounding so bad and so good at the same time?

Ever hear something sounding so bad and so good at the same time? Last night leaving the classroom, heard an executive say, “The guy wanted $5,000 to speak to us. We’re never gonna hire someone asking only $5,000.”

Whatever we do for a living, are we delivering on an exhilarating level?

Crazy.

Of course.
