A grand entrance and a grand exit. That’s what you need in show business.
Gabe Anderson
Gabe “the bass player” Anderson caught my attention a year ago. Can’t remember how. Probably from Seth’s blog. Here’s the rest of the context from his quote above:
“A grand entrance and a grand exit. That’s what you need in show business.
One to rile them up. One to send them home.
When you appear on stage and when you disappear off stage…these are the two most profound moments because your presence means everything in that room.”

Scarcity creates value.
dad
Not being able to see makes sight valuable.
Not being able to read makes reading valuable.
Not being well makes wellness valuable.
Not being able to do what you planned to do makes doing what you planned more valuable.
One month from a Glacier Summer reunion.
Note: 10 more days in Australia, then 3 weeks in Walt Disney World, then a one-way ticket to the high country.

What if you start thinking the opposite about everything you believe at work?
dad
Tradition and dogma imprint careers as an aspirational devotion ‘to put bread on the table and create quality of life’.
Many cultures, including the one i was born and raised in, promote putting work first, especially for men. And now in recent decades, women too.
What if you thought differently?
Take your ‘career’ for example…
No overtime.
No weekends.
No holidays.
No skipping vacations.
There are obvious tradeoffs between a padded bank account and a lean bank account.
One must decide.
We are always deciding.
Even when we don’t decide, we still have made a choice.

Doing ‘business things’ differently is my favorite work fun.
dad
Having fun and .thinking .differently are synonymous to me now.
Actually, truth be told, it’s always been this way.
Shhhh.
Our secret.
