What’s The Most Important Thing A Successful Leader Should Do Four Days Before Christmas?

No rest for a weary (and thankful) leader

Where should a leader focus her valuable time and energy during hectic holiday periods? Same place as always. Spilt your thinking into three big chunks: what you did yesterday, what you are doing today, and what you need to do tomorrow. Go.

Before Facebook, There Where Newspapers
Before Facebook, There Where Newspapers

Can we all just agree on one thing? For the vast majority of people, there’s too much to do and too little time. This is why prioritization was invented.

Funny thing about prioritization, when you think back to how much time you’ve spent learning about it and honing your skills at prioritizing, you, well, come up pretty short.

So, when you get a little more time, what “priority” do you intend to work on?

Someday, maybe on vacation, I’ll find time to explore a decent and effective Facebook Fan Page. Social Media Examiner will be the first stop for tips, like this one yesterday.

Worst Time Management Advice Ever

What Makes For Good Advice?
What Makes For Good Advice?

The worst time management advice ever invented?

To prioritize your schedule.

No seriously. Ill advice.

Poison.

Far better to schedule your priorities.

If you don’t understand this, go get some fresh air and try this again later.

Unless you’ve got something more important to do.

Look At All These

Money Tree?
Money Tree?

Look at all these things we have to do:

  • Buy Insurance
  • Buckle our Seat Belt
  • Say Thank You
  • Brush Our Teeth
  • Be Nice to Others
  • Lock Our Doors Before Bedtime
  • Do a Great Job at Work
  • Blah, blah, blah

But, ask us to think about our personal vision statement, and you might as well ask us if we can grow a money tree.

Why is that?  Am I missing something?

Leader Top Priorities?

Leadership priorities.  Probably the single most important “to do” on a great leader’s list.  Right?

At the top for me is a compelling vision.  Then acting with integrity. And thirdly, building trust.

But these aren’t the priorities I’m talking about.

I’m referring to personal, moral priorities.

A few months ago, I had the privilege to hear a Fortune 100 President give a speech. To my surprise he listed his as:

  1. Faith
  2. Family
  3. Career

Didn’t see that one coming.  Career was third.  As a Fortune 100 President. Wow.

Live authentically, serve humbly, live to make other’s dreams come true.
