Reverse Fathers Day, work

What if you start thinking the opposite about everything you believe at work?

dad

Tradition and dogma imprint careers as an aspirational devotion ‘to put bread on the table and create quality of life’.

Many cultures, including the one i was born and raised in, promote putting work first, especially for men. And now in recent decades, women too.

What if you thought differently?

Take your ‘career’ for example…

No overtime.

No weekends.

No holidays.

No skipping vacations.

There are obvious tradeoffs between a padded bank account and a lean bank account.

One must decide.

We are always deciding.

Even when we don’t decide, we still have made a choice.

Work fun

Bluey book cover
One of this morning’s Father’s Day gifts from Chapin.

Doing ‘business things’ differently is my favorite work fun.

Having fun and .thinking .differently are synonymous to me now.

Actually, truth be told, it’s always been this way.

Shhhh.

Our secret.

Every day is Father’s Day.

In “jeff-land” it feels absurd to celebrate magnificent blessings once a year.

Early dinner yesterday. Chapin’s favorite ‘local college restaurant’.

i believe work is only work if you’d rather be doing something else.

Being on Spaceship Earth for 6+ decades is a cool place to be.

Knowing that no male on my dad’s side made it past 60 isn’t cool, but making it well past that feels weirdly cool. Like a blessing, gift, or favor undeserved. i think it’s called Grace.

Dear Cosmos, thank you for your Grace.

Striving, again, like i do every day, to show genuine appreciation.

Cheryl did some research. Had wondered if it was prescribed. Glad to see it is.
