Work Vlog break

6-second video: Magic lives.

If Disney ran your life, everything would matter and nothing would be optional. The bar for all five of life’s-big-choices* is raised to the highest level.

*Life’s big choices, like a broken record: mind, body, spirit, work, home.

  • Plan longer hikes later in week
  • Have fun
  • Be flexible
  • Stop often to gaze and wonder
  • Use sound leadership judgement
  • Carry more water than you think you’ll need
  • Plan on worst case
  • Carry a Garmin satellite GPS device for emergencies
  • Carry a basic 1st aid kit

  • Stop often to take photos/vids (you should too)
  • Carry a pocket rain poncho (you should too)

The training & development trap

The training & development trap…

Training teaches you how to do.

Development teaches you how to lead.

Doing and leading are not the same.

Not even close.

Train for compliance.

Develop for commitment.

You’re welcome.

Halloween, 2014

7-second video: These videos became possible because Cheryl and i were not in a hurry and excited we had such a unique and quite lengthy Grizzly Bear observation from afar.

Do you still work for Disney?

No, i retired on Halloween after 30 years of service. It was really ‘scary’ to leave.

You see what i did there.

So intentional.

What narrative is there from say, October 7, or November 16, or December 10?

Note: Because i knew the date would be between September 30 and January 1, looked at December 5th and 15th. If you’re a Walt Disney buff, you know what those dates are. Neither seemed appropriate or inspiring.

Pushing people matters

Disney customer service speaker Jeff noel
World-class squinter. World-class, professional antagonizer.

When someone pushes you uncomfortably, it is almost always because they care about the team.

Note: Family is your most important team.
