Shining a bright light is key

Clouds carrying rain arrived just after i took this photo. Tested a pocket “emergency” poncho on the descent yesterday.

Shining a bright light is key.

What?

As a leader, shine a bright light.

Light is energy.

Energy is growth.

We can manage under low-light conditions, or even in the dark, but not as well as when things are brightly illuminated.

As CEO of You, Inc, you are in charge of high energy lighting.

Marvel

This postcard Grizzly looks like a lighter version of the one i came face to face with one week ago.

Marvel.

Even though i came face to face with a Grizzly last week, i still feel anxious hiking alone.

Bears are on a feeding frenzy now, beefing up before hibernation (or they’ll die).

Hardly anyone on the trails.

You are literally on your own when you hit the trail.

Some trails are 10-20 miles.

No wifi.

No cell.

i marvel at it all.

Write the next book

Lake McDonald is 10 miles long, plus another 6-7 miles to the Garden Wall.

Write the next book.

Write it already.

i’m tired of waiting.

Turn your fear into history, jeff.

Go get ’em Greta

A hidden gem, this angle. Heavy Runner (middle right) from an angle no one sees. Even the people who climb Mt Reynolds have no reason to hike to this place.
Panorama. Glacierally-carved. Yesterday morning.
Blackfoot Glacier. From 150 glaciers in 1850 to 23 glaciers in 2019. Forecast is for all 23 to be declassified as glaciers by 2030.
This flat “peninsula” was an easy and stunning walk.
Blackfoot Glacier closeup.
This group sold us on walking out there.
Same group, upper right. Zooming out for context.

Go get ’em Greta.

A 16-year old Swede is making our World uncomfortable with our collective apathy towards global warming.

Supremely courageous leadership is rarely popular because, while the cause almost always has unanimous agreement something should be done, almost no one will act.

For example:

Mental illness, gun control, obesity, opioids, divorce, sex trafficking, internet addiction, etc, etc.

Greta’s guts to call people (particularly policy makers like the UN) out inspires the heck out of me.

It makes me question my convictions too.

This is comfortably uncomfortable.

Thank you Greta.

Great work can be lonely if…

Stumbled upon this on the descent. Brittney just so happened to be descending right after i said goodbye to Shane and Jeremy. She solo-summited Reynolds and followed behind me so i could learn. It was scary until it wasn’t.
In the light on the left is Swiftcurrent Mountain with the fire tower (you can see it). In the center is Mt. Oberlin. Have summited both of these 8,200’ peaks. The only two summits so far.

Great work can be lonely if…

You don’t teach others.

It’s impossible to be a great leader if those closest to you don’t benefit from your experience, wisdom, and teaching.

The challenge is you have to have faith because you may not live long enough to see your most cherished loved ones reach their highest potential and purpose.
