A breathtaking boost to a writer’s passion and purpose

My writing received a breathtaking boost on every level. Knowing, which includes anticipating, when to get out of your comfort zone makes you a better leader – a better writer.

Not allowing my seven-plus year daily blogging streak to end, i found creative ways to blog daily.

It’s in the shipping that fear is conquered and confidence is grown.

This is a message that is painfully obvious and simple, but insanely challenging to embrace for a lifetime.

Second-hand benefits

Six Big Horn Sheep at Logan Pass. They look like rocks with legs. Decent chance you can’t spot them.

Six Big Horn sheep descended from their high-altitude base camp. We sat at the parking lot’s edge, hoping they’d cross close by. It was fun to watch the motorists try to sneak a five-second view as they drove by.

The second-hand benefit from an early arrival and a parking space is that we watched the Big Horn Sheep for 15 minutes.

The similarities are different

Glacier easy trails — Trail of the Cedars is a flat trail, not quite a mile. Elevation maybe 4,000 feet.

Glacier Hidden Lake Trail — The climb starts at 6,640 feet.

Logan Pass parking lot in evening — Logan Pass parking lot thins out after 6pm.

Two hikes an hour apart. One shaded, short and flat with no visible wildlife. The other trail steep and longer, in the hot sun. The 3,000-foot altitude gain allowed the (hot) sun to feel complementary instead of adversarial. Rewarded with a hairy marmot and two mountain goats on our return descent to Logan Pass visitor’s center.

Seeing the upside is the only option

Waterton, Alberta — Never knew there was a town nearby.

Waterton, Alberta was a delightful mountain lake town. I’d go back in a heartbeat. They had “city deer” that roamed freely in front yards and were kid friendly.

This is rarely talked about and therefore rarely addressed

Highland Trail Hike — It was indescribable to make it this far.

Fear holds leaders back. And it holds leaders back their entire career. Overcoming is the DNA of exceptional leaders. This is rarely talked about and therefore rarely addressed.

And like a summit, it’s a continuous journey.

It literally took 30 years for me to figure this out.
