Work progress

Page-a-Day calendars. Sent 20, for good measure. It’s a new year. Let’s go!
29-second video: What’s not to love? What’s not to share? Wait, there’s more…
17-second video: The final part of the video story. At the end you hear Alonzo say my name. Then he suggested a photo of me in the lobby. To which i suggested a photo of the three of us in the lobby.

Been making progress all year with my keynote speaking. Motivated by a clear, concise, and compelling desire to shed myself of administrative drag.

Long story.

Sparing the details. They only matter to me anyway.

But i gotta say, work shedding is awesome.

What pain at work

recycling website
When i typed my (personally owned) URL that had to do with our homeowners association, this is where visitors get redirected because…

DNS means Domain Name Server.
GoDaddy admin screen
Yesterday’s experience was the nudge i needed to delete my GoDaddy Legacy (2008) account and the four domain names and their associated URL’s.

There’s pain in negative work experiences, disappointments, and unproductive work sacrifices.

Pain teaches us.

The more pain we experience, the more education we get.

We can learn which pain is an investment and which pain is bankruptcy.

Investment pain is pain we welcome because we know believe it leads somewhere good. Perfect example is the 2008 decision to start my own business so that in 2014 (after 30 years at Disney) i could retire from Disney and go out on my own. Doing the same thing i did at Disney Institute, but being in charge of everything, especially my travel schedule.

What’s in your keynote speech?

apple photos app screen shot
A cool discovery. Gonna be interesting.

In the past two years, Magic has gotten more exciting.

Several recent and special (life-changing?) keynote speeches have changed the way i approach my art.

Some context. Disney Institute ‘stole’ me from a 15-year Resort Operations career.

Been a Disney Customer Service Keynote Speaker since 1999.

That’s a quarter century.

Humbling.

Worth noting i never wanted to become a speaker.

Ever.

Now, 25 years later, i want to be a customer service transformer.

The simpler i hone my message, the more powerful the message becomes.

Three customer service blueprints.

And the whole world knows them.

The whole world uses them.

Professionally of course.

And also personally.

World peace may get closer to reality with this.

Thick clouds hugging a mountain
Mt Oberlin, my favorite summit because of its ease to access and ease to summit. Photo: Taken from Granite Park Chalet, miles away. Was struck by the constant cloud movement. The clouds moved from right to left but never disappeared. Guessing a Westerly moving cloud system was colliding with an Easterly moving air stream.

Focus and discipline are legendary leadership superpowers.

Reputation:

  1. Process Mapping: Need a small (2-4) “Emotional Connection” team with an accountability leader. Brainstorm customer touch points, pick one, compare two lists—meets & exceeds expectations, try something. Launch, learn, revise. Repeat.

Out of office alert at work

mountains and lake
Jody Maberry texted this photo to me last night and asked, “Do you know where this is?” “Yes, Mt. Wilbur looking down on Iceberg Lake. Ahern Pass is on the other side of the far wall.” What i didn’t share is my suspicion it’s from Google Earth, not a climber’s camera. Why? Wilbur is notoriously dangerous to climb.

Racing through your days takes your focus off life’s small details.

Out of office alert at work…

What’s a simple, scalable way to add simplicity and scalability to every Galen Customer detail?

Use three well-known tools:

  1. Questions
  2. Paradox
  3. Common sense

A few examples:

Can you imagine how Galen looks in our Customer’s eyes when everyone at Galen has a professional, intentional, Galen-difference in something so seemingly insignificant?

What does the customer think and feel when all their questions are answered in a Galenized presentation?

What message is sent to all stakeholders in Galen’s ecosystem about attention to the smallest of details, to trust, to excellence?
