Creating a First-class Business:
More than anything else, the glue that held together the organization as it grew around the world was training. Ogilvy used the metaphor of a teaching hospital. “Great hospitals do two things,” he said. “They look after patients, and they teach young doctors. Ogilvy & Mather does two things: We look after clients, and we teach young advertising people. Ogilvy & Mather is the teaching hospital of the advertising world. And as such, it is to be respected above all other agencies.”

Driving home from the Cross Country meet (and breakfast), 400 meters from our subdivision, the white head in a sea of black had me bring the car to a quick stop.
When i exited the car and walked a little closer, many of the vultures scattered. In the top photo try to image the Eagle surrounded by three times as many birds all packed tightly around the Eagle.
It was stunning.
The contrast.
The respect.
As soon as the Eagle flew away, all hell broke loose.
The analogies to real life rushed into my consciousness.

Patience is a virtue and challenging to apply 100% of the time.
But that’s what great leadership (and parenting) is all about, being consistent when the pressures tempt us to loose our patience.
Leadership is also about seeing ahead and preparing a future that is better than now, much better.
One small hairline crack from a single dropped iPhone led to a set of spider-web cracks after a second drop one week later. Heading back to Glacier National Park for a week i don’t want a third drop to render the iPhone useless.
Plan ahead.
Simple.
Not easy.
Temptation to wait almost always runs high.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.
People are watching you and judging you all day, everyday.
What story are you consciously aware of that your actions are telling?
Satisfied with your answer?
