Three pieces of advice for college freshmen

A big city newspaper interviewed me just before i boarded a plane to Kuwait last month.

Don’t sweat the future. Opportunities are going to present themselves. You want to have critical thinking. You want to work well with a diverse group of people. You want to follow your passions.

Heading north in a few days

Exquisite architecture. Nature. In our front yard.

Heading north in a few days to spend a planned weekend at our Son’s college.

His college acceptance letter arrived mid-December and we’ve had four previous visits, including an overnight dorm room stay.

The five other smart and ambitious young men have not yet been accepted.

This is a stress for them that is challenging to comprehend.

While we are attending a Spring Campus weekend traditon, the others are missing this type of opportunity.

Being organized and committed can trump a highly-prized personal attribute like intellect.

Traditional metrics have merit.

So do non-traditional metrics.

Doing what you love makes you wealthy.

And it makes you rare.

How do i know?

Better question, how can i not know?

Six decades on the planet – i got me some wisdom (and a ton of experience).

Define mediocrity, which is the opposite of remarkable, so we are clear.
