Dear inspiration

Disney Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It parade
The Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It (MiSiCi) parade created a 30-minute wait on the bus – which was perfect for writing.

Haven’t been on the double-decker bus in many years…because it hasn’t run in many years.

Had this seat for 30 minutes before i was distracted with driving to Cinderella Castle.

Dear inspiration,

Last night as i entered Town Square for the sixth consecutive day – writing my first Disney business book – you surprised me with the main Street Double-Decker bus.

Wow.

What fun.

Not what i was expecting.

It was better.

Better is what inspiration lives for, in my opinion.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Dear laughter,

Thank you for, overall, making me a funny guy at Disney.

The only way i and my Disney colleagues knew how to survive the pressure to deliver daily excellence (without exception) was to have fun on the job.

We got really good at being crazy.

It’s funny how our Guests didn’t see the bulk of it.

i assured the Cast Member that if he needed seats for Guests, i would leave without needing to be asked. It’s the Disney culture.

Dear writing,

Many will say you require writers to also be researchers. Thank you for qualifying “research” to also mean real life experience.

Having spoken to over one-million people and roughly 2,000 different organizations, my “research” is world-class.

Few, if any, speakers have done this level of quantitative and qualitative research.

Dear writing, thank you for being flexible, creative, and smart.

Dear Risk,

Thank you for the glory days when i wasn’t afraid of anything. Thank you for quickly teaching me there are certain things i should be glad i’m afraid of, like going through the motions in life.

But now that i’m 57, the glory days could appear to be behind me, or at least for the “typical 57 year old”.

But they’re not behind me, they’re ahead of me.

i’m still afraid. But now i’m afraid of squandering time.

So i don’t.

It’s too risky.

Dear Prayer,

Thank you for the religious and spiritual leaders you inspire to dedicate their lives to helping the rest of humanity have a place of worship.

And thank you for allowing every human to freely choose which path in life to take – one that centers on service, or one that centers on being served.

PS. Thank you for transforming my personal leadership commitment with the blessing of parenthood. What i once believed was an entitlement turned out to be anything but.

PSS. Thank you for providing Walt Disney the epiphany, as he sat on a community park bench, that there ought to be someplace where adults and children could have fun together.

Note: Walt recognized that places for adults didn’t (generally) cater to children and places catering to children were boring for adults.
