Here’s a vital tip. So please read it carefully. It’s so bloody simple that I’d be willing to bet many won’t get it. Ready?
Done is better than perfect!
Get started. Thinking about starting a blog, but not starting, is way less effective than starting a blog and not knowing how.
Start. Experiment. Use the same good judgement you do with other things you do at work. Just get started. Initial annual investment is $10.00. Add another $10.00 if you want private registration.
I use GoDaddy.com . I have found their customer service to be as legendary as Nordstrom’s, Southwest Airlines, and Disney.

The jungle jeff blog is committed to helping you reach your organizational goals. I work hard to do more than my fair share to stay great.
This article reveals what we all know – no one is perfect. Walt Disney smoked way too many cigarettes. Ya with me? I just posted a link to an article that confirms that we are all human and it’s an allegation about Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger.

Tips: (in layman’s terms and not legally binding nor official)
1. Aim for zero copyright infringements
2. Aim to keep co-workers and Guest’s names anonymous (I’m working on clarity because in either case, I have people who would like to be, and have agreed to be, named)
3. Work hard to eliminate any written, audio or video exposure that would be inappropriate (inappropriate is subjective and I’m working to put better parameters around “inappropriate”). While doing this, you may push some boundaries that are fuzzy. Be open-minded, flexible, and at the same time, push the boundaries using your professional judgement. Some rules and boundaries are in place because, “That’s the way we always done it”. Remember Rosa Parks? A new way could very well open you, your organization or even the world, to a better way. A new way is often discovered by not doing it the old way. This is called risk taking. I’m lucky that my company was founded on, and thrives on, calculated risk taking.
4. If your blog is officially about your company, keep it about your company – consistency – your readers will know what to expect, and so will your company. I’m not saying you can’t tell personal stories. In fact, I’d encourage personal stories. That’s what makes great speakers and writers. If your blog is not official, well, things are blurrier, longer. Use your best judgement.
5. Benchmark. Bookmark and follow other blogs and bloggers. You will need to find the balance or parameters around what your organization will let you do “on company time”. If you are like me, I work seven days a week, inconsistent hours, travel, etc. The line between personal and professional time doesn’t exist in my world. Get agreement with your leader. I just counted 64 blogs saved in my Blog folder. Here are a few of my favorites:
CEO, Carnival Cruise Lines, John Heald’s blog
CEO, Marriott International, Bill Marriott’s blog
CEO, USA Track & Field, Doug Logan’s blog
6. Be crystal clear what your goal is. This may take some practice, and some time. It has for me. I’ve been focused on blogging since February, 2009. I am on a HUGE learning curve. For example, my goal is simple – drive business exponentially to my favorite company. I believe Internet social marketing is the key. Rather than wait, I’m moving. In today’s world, speed, creativity and adaptability is key.
7. What website hosting plan should you use? Google – website hosting – great place to start. I use GoDaddy. There service, to me, is as legendary as Southwest Airlines. Cost is roughly $20 per year. A bargain for an Internet Marketing storefront.
8. What blog platform should you use? Google – free blog software – great place to start. I use WordPress. Using GoDaddy, I was able to click a few simple steps to add wordpress to my domain name junglejeff.net, for free. Who doesn’t like easy and free?
9. Big questions will pop up. Handle them as best you can, and involve smart people. For example, jungle jeff is an unofficial blog, designed as a tool to help me increase market share. It’s in the testing mode. Once it does what I believe it will do, the plan is to train others and implement this within an organization, further driving growth, reach and market share – exponential results.

This page is currently focused on sharing tips to work within professional parameters to make this blog one that is professionally acceptable to as many readers as possible. It will not please everyone, even though I wish it would. Name me one person or thing that ever has. I rest my case, your honor.
Some upfront assumptions:
1. I’ll share what I learn.
2. Many parameters have yet to be defined.
3. Integrity, transparency, creativity and results are the founding principals.
4. The goal of this blog is to drive business exponentially to my favorite company.
5. The goal of driving business to my favorite company is that they will reach more people in a positive way.
6. The goal of reaching more people is the “ripple effect”, both tangibly (financial) and intangibly (emotional), for everyone.
7. Assumptions 4, 5, and 6 are ultimately about helping you and your organization.
8. I’ll be honest. For example, in number 7 above, if you think I’m not being honest, I would consider that a, “the glass is half-empty” mind-set. Doesn’t make you right or wrong, any more than it makes me right or wrong. It is what it is. Deal?
9. I may make some mistakes. Humans do. Good humans will admit them and correct quickly. I’ll work hard to be a good human.
10. I believe with all my mind, body and soul, and you can quote me on this, “If your goal isn’t impossible, you’re not reaching high enough“.
Bonus assumption: Most people want to make the world a better place. We can. We will. IF, we all work together.
Carpe diem, jungle jeff 🙂 April 10, 2009 2:38PM
