Pushing the limits is useless as a theory

Pushing the limits is useless as a theory.

Had to reach out to the Speakers Bureau late yesterday (Friday) to get an update.

They are going to bypass my offer and seek a lower priced contract with another speaker. Was only $1,500 away from their highest bid. Would have been easy to accept.

Why not then?

Because pushing the limits is useless as a theory.

Classic nothing ventured, nothing gained.

PS. Also asked for full payment at time of signing – the only way i could justify a reduced rate.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

If we let it, our job is a great place to hide

If we let it, our job is a great place to hide.

Meetings, lists, projects.

Managerial stuff.

Makes us too busy for our art.

The work that matters. The work we leave undone.

(pause and think about that, then read on)

Hire someone great at managing things needing managed.

Become reacquainted with your highest form of contribution.

That’s your art.

Transform yourself into the artist you were born to be.

Better late than never.

The hurdle is this: completing the first step, which is recognizing in yourself what you were made to be.

Will we spend a lifetime holding back because we are afraid to go first?

Tell the truth painting
The truth can set us free. It can also hurt us. We must decide.

Just had a moment…

Skimming through some LinkedIn updates it occurs to me that we may be habitually dwelling on quotes and idealistic stories from great companies, as well as the latest research studies on high performing teams.

And then instead of using this to initiate healthy change in ourselves, we use it as another unhealthy brick added to the wall that holds us back for “being the change we wish to see”.

Instead, we find one more piece of evidence against our dysfunctional leadership team. One more reason to laser focus on the change that’s not happening with someone else.

Will we spend a lifetime holding back because we are afraid to go first?

And will we never notice the daily missed opportunities?

Without any sales experience, without having a passion for sales

Is there a way to become a salesperson, without having any sales experience, and without having a passion for sales?

And if the answer is yes to both, is it possible to rewrite how to sell?

Cultural transformation to move from decently surviving to abundantly thriving revolves around which of the two questions we embrace:

  1. Is it worth trying to do?
  2. Can it be done?

Almost always the belief – with a litany of excuses – will be that it can’t be done.

Aim too high or aim too low

Aim too high or aim too low, there are always going to be critics.

Each aim comes with an outcome.

Each outcome comes with an opportunity.

Recalibration.

The one critical factor that often gets forgotten is the target we set out to achieve in the first place.

Never lose sight of what motivated you in the first place.
