Balance Is Nearly Impossible

Do you have a mentor when it comes to balancing work life and personal life?

I don’t.

Why?

That’s a great question. I’d like to know why myself.

Having balance means saying no more often than some like. It means declining “opportunities”. It means creating some flexible boundaries.

These are all things that may be frowned upon by ambitious folks.

Believe it or not, but many people casually despise others for their apparent “balance”.

You will have to make a decision. Which is more important.

But you already knew that.

PS. I’ll stack my ambition up against anyone. Mine is simply counter-intuitive, not less.

Can you walk and talk?

Silly, isn’t it? Can you walk and chew gum at the same time? It’s a tough economic time, a troubled time, an uncertain time. Perhaps the most difficult time of our entire life.

This begs the real question because, personally, it seems excruciatingly rare.

Can you walk the talk?

Of course, this got my lizard brain spinning which then produced these questions:

How often do you strategize over what you think others are saying about you?

How often do you strategize over what you want others to say about you?

Do Not, Under Any Circumstances

Yesterday was an awesome day.

How was yours?

Everyday should be an awesome day, even the ones that pin us down and make it difficult to breath.

Why?

Because that’s the way life works.

Pretending it doesn’t is foolish.

Don’t be an educated fool.

This Takes You To A Special Place

As you rush through your insane busy days, do you take make time to pause and ground your thoughts and actions with your core being?

We see it in others every single day.

But we can’t see it in ourselves.

I cannot recall the last time, if ever, I’ve provided a link to this blog. It represents the very core of what I believe. You may not believe what I believe and that’s not the point. The point is, whatever you believe, do you believe it all the way and do you use it all day long to drive your work towards excellence?

How much freedom do you have at work to have fun, to be fun, to creatively express yourself?

How often do you enjoy that freedom?  And how often do you share the fun with others? One of my blind spots is that the comedian in me is struggling to shine through the “serious” nature of this blogging mission.

All of us are challenged in some way, shape or form to be authentic, to express our true and passionate selves. What do you do to not give up, to keep marching forward? Every ant in the ant mound and every bee in the bee hive makes a contribution. Same with humans. Generally speaking, society pays us money relative to our contribution.

With money, we can buy food, shelter, transportation, insurance, and help others.

Money isn’t the root of all evil, it is the love of money that is the trap. Making money is challenging. Investing it and growing it are even more so. But we need to figure it out – it’s our adult responsibility.

Too Successful?

It’s called courage.  Our creator also bestowed us with courage, so we could stand and fight, to defend ourselves – from a Saber-Toothed Tiger, or a brutal economy.

Yet the challenge most of us face, is the challenge of stealth proportions. The one we can not see, hear, touch or taste.

The fear of success.

(pause)

You know what’s crazy, once we start to see, hear, touch and taste it, we wonder why we waited so long.

Yards Cost More

Your salary will be different if you are a manager or a leader.

Managers can make good money. Leaders in the same industry make even more.

The more money you make, the more you can do.

Being a manager is hard. Being a leader is even harder.

And then there’s being a business owner.

Chief Manager Or Chief Leader?

Getting people to comply is the manager’s job.

Getting people to commit is the leader’s job.

Big difference between compliance and commitment.

Guess you already knew that.
