Disney Twitter or Twitter Disney?

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

This morning’s Orlando Sentinel has great news, the Orlando Magic are going to the NBA finals.  Woo-hoo!

It also featured an article on Twitter.  Seems the Orlando Sentinel “newspaper”, which I read every morning, online, is now on Twitter.

The Sentinel’s Tech expert and writer, Etan Horowitz, explains in OS.com on Twitter.

What does this have to do with jungle jeff?

That’s right, you guessed it.  Everything.

At a nine-year old’s birthday party yesterday, while our son was having fun with his friends in the pool, another parent and I discussed his iPhone, my new MacBook, and a few dozen really cool social media apps that most people are not familiar with.

Twitter?  Yes, most have heard of, but few understand, it’s capability to market their business.  Just look up Twitter on Google to see the buzz.

One of those companies that does understand it is the Orlando Sentinel.

What about you?

Happy Memorial Day

Monday, May 25th, 2009

Happy.  Memorial Day.

The two words seem to contradict each other.

While my Dad and my Father-in-law served our Country, both came back alive.

My Father-in-law returned from Europe after WWII.

My Dad came back from Japan after the Korean Conflict.

There are many Families that will have a different, and more difficult, time remembering this day than most of us.

This day is dedicated to the memory of their loved ones.  The ones that never came home to see their Family grow.

It is with the utmost respect, and deepest humility, that we should all remember the price for our freedom.

Freedom isn’t free.  It often comes with a huge price tag.

Today is about the price that has been paid in full

Walt Disney once said something very close to this, “If you could look deep into my eyes, you would see red, white and blue stripes”.

The Star Spangled Banner is one of our Nation’s great songs.  Let freedom ring.  Peace, jeff

Smaller, Local, Regional, Start-up businesses take note:  You don’t have to be a giant to be world-class.  You just have to work harder than those you compete against for your customer base.

So?

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

So what?

What a great question.  Simple.  But great.

Few things frustrate me these days.  In less than three weeks, I’ll turn 50.  Can’t wait.  What a milestone.

There are so many frustrating things out there.

It’s pretty common that people complain about aging.

But I want to know, “Why?”

Rather than complain, roll over and let it happen, there is an alternative, I believe.

So what?

Exactly.  I figure it’s an easy choice – be a statistic.

Become one of the majority that complains, or become one of the minority that just gets on with staying healthy.

Same with the economy.

Complain about it, or get on with the business of preparing for the upturn.

Historical adversity and embracing change.  Everyone you lead is taking their cue from you.

Here’s what they’re observing:

  1. What you say.
  2. What you don’t say.
  3. Your behaviors.
  4. Your attitude.
  5. Your focus.

Adversity doesn’t develop character, it reveals it.

Make it a great day to take look in the mirror and think about those five areas.  When you get back to work, be a champion.  Your people are expecting this from you now, more than ever.

Hard?

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Why is it so hard to get great results?

You know what I think?

I think most people don’t know what the goal is.

You buy that?

Doesn’t matter.

What?

It doesn’t matter what I think.  What matters is what you think.

Want to test your leadership influence?

Ask the people who know you to describe what they think your vision is.

Adversity doesn’t develop character, it reveals it.

Great Social Media Advice From Britney Spears‘ Social Media Director.

View article and video.

What does this have to do with business, money and jeff noel?

What does it have to do with you?

Everything, I believe.

I’m studying Social Media, Social Networking and Social Marketing.  I read and watch everything I can, to understand it.  I also experiment with social media strategies and social media tactics to see which are the most effective and why.

Turbulent times or great economic times, it doesn’t matter. Everyday is a great day to be working hard to produce excellent results.  Carpe diem, jeff noel  :)

Delta Airlines Agent Delivers the Wow Factor

Monday, May 18th, 2009

On a recent trip, a Delta Airlines Attendant engaged me in an otherwise routine and unengaging part of flying – taking off.

Below are two You Tube video links for short, but interesting views of how something so ordinary can become extraordinary.

First clip.

Second clip.

Make it a GREAT Monday, because if you don’t, who will.  If not this Monday, when?  Carpe diem, jeff noel  :)

Disney College Program?

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Yes, Disney does indeed have a Disney College Program.

The link above is a great place to start.

Most of us can count a decent number of “life’s milestones”.

First job.  First paycheck.  First car.  First kiss.  High School Graduation.

I remember my first real paycheck in the Summer of 1975.  I was a stock boy and order puller, in an electrical parts warehouse – one that Commercial Contractors, General Contractors, and other businesses would use to buy electrical supplies at wholesale prices.

And I also remember the Winter of 1982. January 25, to be exact.

Landing in Orlando, from frosty, south central Pennsylvania, I was immediately enamoured with the palm trees and sunshine.

I hitch-hiked from the airport until I finally found Snow White Campground, near a town called Kissimmee, on Seven Dwarfs Lane.  It was behind the KOA Campground near 192 & 535.

For the next eight months, I was a college intern at The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.

Technically, I was also a fifth year college senior, because I changed my major and made a few “mistakes”.  It ultimately took nearly seven years for that four-year degree, but that’s another tale.  :)

It was such a great experience to be a Jungle Cruise skipper at the Magic Kingdom.  I mean, how could it not be?  Straw hat, microphone, polyester costume, Disney smile….

Anyway, I digress.  ”Oh look, a bird”.

A dream is a wish your heart makes.

Never let your memories be bigger than your dreams.

Here I am, all these years later, back in Central Florida, traveling the world, working as a catalyst for positive organizational change.

Is Disney afraid to take risks?

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Is Disney afraid to take risks?

Not in a million years.  Walt Disney was the ultimate “envelope-pusher”.

Pushing the envelope is a phrase used when someone goes where no man or woman has gone before. Faster, higher, longer, deeper, more difficult, whatever.

In ten years of traveling regularly, I’ve never seen In-Flight Internet access.

Until yesterday.

It worked GREAT.

It was easy to create an account at www.gogoinflight.com .  Seems like gogo inflight is pushing the envelope.

The world is changing.  Fast.

I’ll bet if Walt Disney was alive, he’d love the speed, and, the breeze in his face.

I know I sure do.  Carpe diem, jungle jeff  :)

Are Impossible Goals Best?

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Is setting an impossible goal the best way to ensure your success?

Almost sounds counter-intuitive, doesn’t it?

If it’s impossible, than it can’t be done.  Right?

Well, here’s what I think:

“If you’re goal isn’t impossible, you’re not reaching high enough”.

Only a hunch, and I’ll bet most who read this will be in such a rush, that the insightful message will be lost.

Trust me, I have embraced this insight.  And it has made all the difference in the world.

Best wishes for continued success as you pursue your big dreams.  Carpe diem, jeff noel  :)
